In this project, I presented innovative strategies to our client aimed at enhancing the onboarding experience for new players while differentiating the client within the competitive betting industry. Our research indicated that many companies overlook the importance of onboarding and player education, even though onboarding can significantly impact retention and conversion rates. I worked independently on this project, leveraging feedback and ideas from my wider design team to refine my concepts. The project is currently not live.

The Challenge

How might we improve the onboarding experience for our client, and use this to provide a more personalised experience for players? How might we educate new players? How might we also collect information about their preferences, likes and dislikes during onboarding to provide a more personalised experience? New Player Goal: As a newly registered player I want a successful onboarding experience that helps me to get to a point where i start to enjoy betting.

The Solution

I developed an onboarding checklist designed to encourage users to explore all the key sections of the site. Research indicated that many players tend to focus on just one part of the platform, so this checklist serves as a structured roadmap to guide them through its various features. The onboarding checklist not only enables clear progress tracking but also prioritizes essential tasks, reducing cognitive load by breaking down complex processes into manageable steps. As users check off items on the list, they experience a sense of accomplishment, which fosters increased engagement and motivation. This approach not only helps users learn about important betting concepts but also enhances their ability to navigate the site effectively.

Sketching and Wireframes: I refined the top three ideas, translating them from sketches into wireframes. These wireframes were then presented to the client, allowing us to finalize the chosen concept based on their feedback. User Flows: By analyzing the current user experience and identifying best practices in onboarding, we gained valuable insights into what works effectively.
